Storm Safety
When a storm happens in Jo Daviess County, they bring plenty of rain, thunder and lightning.

Listed below are some helpful safety tips to protect yourself and your family:

● Avoid wide open areas such as fields and golf courses.
● Stay off hilltops and other high points of ground.
● Do not stand near trees or tall poles.
● Avoid metal objects such as golf carts and clubs, lawn mowers and etc.
● Remove golf shoes or steel-toed boots.
● If you are out on any water, get to land.
● If you are swimming, get out.
●Always disconnect computers TV’s and other delicate electronic equipment.
●Slow down when driving.  Rain reduces traction and causes tires to hydroplane.

Downed Power Lines

●Stay at least 100 feet away
●If the power line has fallen on your vehicle while you are in it, stay inside the            vehicle till professional help arrives.
●Never try to help someone trapped by a power line.  You can endanger your own   safety.
●Instead call “911” immediately.

Heavy Wind or a Tornado

●Immediately go to a safe place.  A basement, bathroom or closet in the lower           area of a building.
●Stay away from all windows.
