Drowning Prevention and Water Safety

Protect your family and friends with a few water safety tips.
Drowning can happen quickly and silently.

Drowning precautions should include the following:

- Supervise children whenever they are near water, including tubs.
  Children can drown in as little as an inch or two of water.

- Install a pool fence or other approved barrier around the pool perimeter.

- Ensure pool access gates are self-closing. 

- Secure doors, gates and pet doors that lead to pool area. Secure spas with              childproof covers. 

- Keep a phone by the pool area to call 911 in case of an emergency.

- Take CPR classes at least every two years.  Babysitters, grandparents and                friends should all know the safety rules and CPR.

- Know the safety rules and CPR.

- Make sure to empty inflatable pools, ice chests and buckets when not in use.

- Do not swim under the influence of alcohol or sedatives.

- Wear life jackets when boating.

- Talk to your children about water safety.

- Teach your children to dial 911.
